Essential Tips for Maintaining Your Eyelash Extensions
Many women choose to get lash extensions because both lashes and eyes can speak volumes. Long, dark, and thick eyelashes are coveted by women everywhere, but not everyone is naturally blessed with them.
Let’s face it: mascara isn’t always enough.
That is the reason why eyelash extensions have become a game-changer for those who want to enhance their natural lashes and achieve a more dramatic look. But keeping them looking gorgeous all the time, you need to properly maintain them. Here are some tips on how to take care of your eyelash extensions so that you can enjoy them for a longer period of time.
DON’T get them wet for the first 24 to 48 hours
When it comes to caring for your new lashes, an important thing to keep in mind is that the adhesive used to attach the lashes needs time to fully bond to your natural lashes. So, avoid getting them wet for the first 24 to 48 hours after your appointment.
During this time period, the adhesive is still setting and any exposure to water or moisture can compromise the bond between the extensions and your natural lashes. This means no swimming, showering, or even sweating excessively during this time period.
Use oil-free makeup products.
Be sure to use oil-free makeup products to ensure that your lash extensions stay in perfect condition. This includes items like mascara, eyeliner, and eye makeup remover, which can potentially break down the adhesive and cause premature shedding of your lashes.
Be gentle when cleansing
Cleaning is important to maintain their appearance and prolong their lifespan. However, when cleaning your lash extensions, it is important to be gentle to avoid damaging the extensions.
By using a soft brush or spoolie, you have to gently comb through them, removing any dirt, debris, or residual makeup. Avoid using unnecessary stress on your lashes, by cleansing them in a sweeping motion, rather than tugging or pulling on the extensions.
DO NOT use cotton pads or balls to remove eye makeup.
If you are wearing eye makeup regularly, removing your makeup can be a tricky task, but it's crucial to do it right to avoid damaging your lashes.
One crucial tip that we always share with our clients is to avoid using cotton pads or balls when taking off your eye makeup. Although cotton pads or cotton balls are a quick and easy solution, they can actually be quite rough on your lashes and skin as well. Because the cotton fibers can cause unnecessary tugging and pulling, leading to irritation or damage. Moreover, they can get tangled in your lashes, causing them to fall out or become misshapen.
Instead, use microfiber cloth or reusable makeup remover pads. They are much gentler on your lashes and skin, helping to reduce any possible irritation or damage and, at the same time, they can effectively remove your eye makeup.
Brush THEM REGULARLY
To maintain the shape and appearance of your eyelash, brush them regularly with a spoolie or soft-bristled brush. This will help to keep them looking neat and tidy.
DO NOT pull or pick at your eyelash extensions
It's important to resist the urge to pull or pick at your eyelash extensions because this can damage your natural lashes and cause your extensions to fall out prematurely. If you do notice any loose lashes or gaps in your extensions, contact your lash artist to schedule a Re Lash appointment.
Keep your hands and fingers away from your eyes
Touching or rubbing your eyes can loosen your lashes and cause them to fall out. Be mindful of where your hands and fingers are and avoid touching or rubbing your eyes as much as possible.
Schedule regular reLash appointments
To maintain the longevity and appearance of your eyelash extensions, it's important to schedule regular reLash appointments with your lash artist. Depending on your natural lash growth cycle and the type of extensions you have, you may need touch-ups every 3 to 4 weeks.
Be mindful of your activities and environment
It is important to remember that there are activities that can cause your eyelash extensions to fall out or loosen. Activities such as swimming, hot yoga, or being in a sauna or steam room can cause your eyelash extensions to loosen or fall out. So, be mindful of your activities and environment and take extra precautions to protect your lashes if necessary.
Taking care of your lashes requires a little extra effort and attention, but the results are worth it. By following these tips, you can maintain the longevity and appearance of your eyelash extensions.
